Ernest Udet's terrific landing skills, deadstick in a bi-plane at the Chicago International Air Races 1933

Thanks Tony!

Ernest Udet is the only German aviator to be inducted into the Ancient and Secret Order of the Quiet Birdmen. Arguably the oldest and most exclusive pilot's fraternity in the world. He was invited and inducted in the early thirties after he came to America and worked in films and did aerobatic demonstrations. Besides his outstanding flying skills he was a genuine "good fellow" and loved a ribald joke and a drink with his fellow aviators and former foes.

He was true to his country and returned to take a high ranking engineering and development position in the Luftwaffe. Unable to stand the excesses of the Nazi regime and the destruction of his country he, as we say, Went West, but was still given a German Military state funeral because of his immense popularity.
